Cooking on charcoal

Charcoal stove with pans

Giving their families food takes the women the whole day.
Growing the food, farming with tools that even my grandparents didn’t use anymore.
Preparing the food, simmering for hours before it can be eaten, on a charcoal fire. Not a barbecue, but just a charcoal stove, to use as little as possible.
Making charcoal, collecting the wood and heating it sufficiently, requires time and effort. An ancient knowledge lost in so many cultures.
No time to relax, that relic of real poverty.

    1. Glad you like the drawings! This happens in a lot of countries, but it’s a bit of a shock to have to cook this way when you grew up in Europe. These actually were my own pans.
